Melissa’s grandfather, Howard Nash, died last week at 87. He was a great father and grandfather, and a great ambassador (as his pastor put it) for Christ, especially at his church, where he took it on himself to reach out to young people at a mostly older church, welcoming them into the family and letting them know that the church loved them. We heard all kinds of great stories this weekend about how he had helped people and made them feel important and loved.
Even better, though, was the reminder that for believers, although death is still our enemy, it is a defeated enemy. Not only has the Lord Jesus Christ tasted death on our behalf, he has also risen from the dead, and his resurrection guarantees ours. So last Wednesday, for Howard, “death was swallowed in victory,” and one day it will be for us as well. “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15)!
