Georgia walk-on? No. Duke walk-on? Yes.

When we moved to NC it became pretty clear that we needed a basketball team, and let’s just be honest, it wasn’t going to be UGA. Turns out our friend Sean’s dad taught at Duke for 25 years, and Sean’s gone to games since he was 2. When we went to our first game at Cameron last year, it sealed the deal as far as where our basketball allegiances would lie.

Yesterday Jake got to return with Matt and Sean for the Duke/Boston College game. A great game and an even greater road trip!

We were standing outside this building when all of a sudden the door opened, and out came the Blue Devil! It was hard to get him to stand still, but here we are (at least most of Sean). Just to be clear, Jake and Sean are not holding hands.

A glimpse of what it’s like inside the famous Cameron Indoor Stadium.

One of Duke’s best games of the season against the #1 school in the conference!

Things got even better when we went to Cook-Out, Sean’s parents’ new favorite, on the way out of town. Cook-Out is our new favorite as well.

The best combo in Durham? No my friend, the best combo in the world. A couple of things to note:

  • The Big Double (TM) burger is the same price as the regular burger. Why does the regular burger even exist?
  • Look carefully at the sides options. You could conceivably, for $3.99, have a Big Double (TM) burger with a corn dog and chicken nuggets as your sides. Glorious.

The only catch is that it’s take-out only. We huddled together for warmth in the Jeep while we enjoyed a surprisingly good burger, two sides apiece and tasty shakes. Go Blue Devils!

Belle of the Ball

This weekend we attended the final Miss Warner Robins High School Pageant Jake’s family will be involved with. Kelsey won the interview portion of the contest and was the third runner-up overall!

Her talent was “Don’t Rain On My Parade” from Funny Girl. As you can tell, quite a set of pipes!

Only one person in this picture has not won some portion of the Miss WRHS pageant. But Lauren has handled it pretty well.

Obligatory silly picture.

Miscellanies

Someday when we post a dozen pictures of Hunt where we swear he’s making different faces but you can’t tell the difference, you’ll sigh and think, “I miss all those random, totally useless things they used to post.”

Random Things #1: It is cold in Charlotte for the first time since Man-Prayer weekend in early November. The average temp since then has been about 68, and this week it’s REALLY cold, and by “really cold” I mean “the temperature it’s supposed to be.” I dumped about a half-cooler of ice out by our house Monday night, and most of it is STILL THERE.

Yesterday.

Today. Not even much of a change. Keep it coming, I say. But I think it’s getting warm again this weekend.

Random Things #2: M’s parents gave me (Jake) a computer bag for Christmas. It was exactly what I wanted, and “exactly what I wanted” turned out to be a bag that would hold my computer quite nicely, along with about half my library, a golf bag, a couple of kids, and my angry eyes. Seriously, it was huge. So we sent it back and got the smaller model, and it came today. I really like it. A lot. It is designed with the bike-riding commuter in mind and is (this time) the perfect size for my computer and a couple of other things. It will also hold my water bottle far away from my computer, and with easy access. As you can see, it also has a very reflective strip for added safety on the road. Watch out Queen City.
