Eliza update: 17 July

IMG_5549Today was MRI and CT scan day. The exciting thing about that (see me keeping it positive?) is that E couldn’t eat for the first half of the day, which is super fun if you’re a baby. But she did well.

Both scans confirmed what we’ve heard so far. The tumor is large, but not abnormally so for a hepatoblastoma. It’s situated on the left side of the liver, which is good. There is no sign of metastasis; all other organs look normal.

On Friday the oncologists and surgeons will meet together to discuss Eliza’s case. The most likely course of treatment goes like this:

  • 2 months of chemotherapy (4 rounds given every 2 weeks)
  • Surgery
  • 1 more month of chemo (2 rounds)

Each round of chemo will involve a 2-day hospital stay, though it could be more if she’s anemic, gets an infection, etc. Between rounds she’ll be at home– about 12 days at a time. This is great news.

Most likely they won’t be able to put the chemo port in until Tuesday, so they’ll dismiss E & M tomorrow and admit them again on Monday. We’re grateful for a few days at home before we go into battle.

  1. Praying for you and your family!

  2. Praying for baby Eliza and all of you! As horrible as this news was, you have posted some positives about it and God is good! So we are hoping for and expecting the best possible outcome. Lots of people at FUMC Warner Robins are praying too!

  3. So glad Eliza and Mom are coming home for a few days. Will pray for strength for Mom and Dad.

  4. 3 Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!
4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. Ps 43:3-5

  5. May the Lord’s Angel Army surround and support you as you prepare for battle. Make yourselves ready by putting on the full armor of God and allowing us to be your standard bearers before the Lord. My prayers are constantly with you both.

  6. Jake, Hey buddy. It’s Mark Norman in Charlotte. Sarah and I love Eliza and have prayed for her daily. I have friends in Minnesota praying for her too. We will not stop praying for her or you until God heals her.

  7. Praying for you and your sweet family! Wishing you well…

  8. Thanks for keeping us updated. We are certainly praying for you guys.

  9. Wonderful picture of “all of your hands” on Eliza. We pray that all of the hands that will care for her will be “God’s healing hands”.
Love in Christ, Janie, Tommy, and T. Carmichael (Jackson, GA)
