Both scans confirmed what we’ve heard so far. The tumor is large, but not abnormally so for a hepatoblastoma. It’s situated on the left side of the liver, which is good. There is no sign of metastasis; all other organs look normal.
On Friday the oncologists and surgeons will meet together to discuss Eliza’s case. The most likely course of treatment goes like this:
- 2 months of chemotherapy (4 rounds given every 2 weeks)
- 1 more month of chemo (2 rounds)
Each round of chemo will involve a 2-day hospital stay, though it could be more if she’s anemic, gets an infection, etc. Between rounds she’ll be at home– about 12 days at a time. This is great news.
Most likely they won’t be able to put the chemo port in until Tuesday, so they’ll dismiss E & M tomorrow and admit them again on Monday. We’re grateful for a few days at home before we go into battle.
